Q1. Where do I find the app?
A. The app is available on the Play Store and App store. Launch the store and type fonebud in the search bar.
Q2. How do I purchase a package
A. Through the app. Set up your account and select a package in the first tab, then proceed to payment. Your package will load in a few minutes.
Q3. Which package will be used?
A. The platform automatically selects the oldest purchase valid in the country you are in. Choosing between packages is not available yet.
Q4. Data usage is different on my phone and the app
A. The phone and the device might not refresh at the same time, they might calculate data in a different way, and some data is needed to communicate between our server and the device
Q5. Does the phone holding the app needs to be close to the device?
A. No, the app is only needed to proceed your purchase. After that, the device works directly with 3G/4G networks
Q6. Does my W holds my personal info?
A. No, we use the device IMEI number for identification, and your W doesn't keep any data.
Q7. My connection speed is slow
A. Data speed (upload and download) is limited by your current location, the local network capacity, and the hosting of the data you area accessing.
Q8. I lost my device, can you find it?
A. No, sorry, we can tell you in which country it was used last, and freeze your account to prevent data use, but that's about it.
Q9. My app is not up to date
A. In the app, click on the top left icon SETTINGS, and tap on Update App in the menu. If not possible, try update through the app store directly.
Q10. My app is up to date but doesn't function properly
A. If you are running the latest version and encounter issues, try to uninstall and reinstall the app.
Q11. Still doesn’t work...
A. If the issues are not solved after reinstalling, contact our support. Keep your W aside for IMEI number and get ready your phone brand, model and OS version for verification.
Q12. I didn't receive my data
A. Hold tight! Sometimes Paypal take some time to send the transaction confirmation over to us, so we might not have received it yet. If you still didn't received your package after few hours, contact our support and we'll run a check with you.
Q13. Can I refund my leftover data?
A. No, we can't split or refund data packages, sorry.
Q14. My payment didn't go through
A. We use Paypal for all payments. Did you enter all your ID and passord correctly during the transaction? If yes, the issue is most likely on their side. Give it another try to be sure, then let our support know and we'll try to solve this together.
Q15. Why data use so quickly?
A. Make sure to deactivate automatic updates for your apps and system, in the settings of your device.
Q16. Why does my device says "no SIM card"?
A. No worries, we use SIM cards to test networks when the device is offline, the message will disappear when your device finds a network to connect to.
Q17. What are my WiFi hotspot name and password?
A. To see your hotspot info, press the W button on the side of your device once, it will show on the screen.
Q18. How to change the password of my WiFi hotspot?
A. First you need an active data plan. Connect your smartphone to the WiFi hotspot of your W. In the fonebud W app, go to the settings menu (top left icon). In the "Wifi password" menu, type your new password twice and confirm it. The new password will show in the sharing screen of your W right after.
Q19. How many devices can connect to my hotspot?
A. Up to 8 devices can connect simultaneously to your hotspot.
Q20. How do I see I'm connected to the hotspot?
A. The number of connected devices on the LCD display (see manual for reference) will change to 1
Q21. My device is very hot
A. It's normal, data sharing and wireless charging both generate heat. If the temperature is uncomfortable, switch off the device by holding its button for a while, and let it cool down.
Q22. My W doesn’t start
A. It might be discharged. Try to plug the USB cable into its microUSB port and the USB side into a computer to charge it. The charging screen should appear shortly after.
Q23. My W can’t charge
A. Try to restart it by holding the power button down for a while, then put it to charge on a different source, with different cables. If it doesn't start charging, please bring it back for diagnostic.
Q24. My screen turned dark
A. The display will switch off to save power, but the hotspot is still working. Press the button once to switch the display back on. The timer shows how long your device has been running.
Q25. My W is working fine, but I can’t use data
A. Don't panic! 3G/4G networks need time to identify your device when you get in range for the first time, try connecting again 5-10 minutes later. If it still doesn't work, check in your fonebud W app that your data plan covers the country you are currently in. Activate that data plan and check its validity date and data left. Check the 3G/4G status on the W screen to make sure that you are in network range.
Q26. My device does not charge wirelessly
A. We use Qi technology for wireless charging. Check the compatibility of your model with your phone manufacturer. If that's not the issue, contact our support for assistance.
Q27. My USB cable feels lose
A. We don't encourage using third party cables for charging, if possible keep to the cable that comes with the device

Step By Step How to Use fonebud W

Step 1

Take your new W out of its box.

Step 2

Press and hold the side button few seconds to switch it on.

Step 3

While it starts and connects with the local network, download the fonebud W app on your smartphone

Step 4

On the app, go to the profile tab and register your device with its IMEI number (located on the side label or under the packaging).

Step 5

You may now connect to the WiFi hotspot created by your device (fonebud W - xxxx).

We want to inform you that whenever you use our Service, in a case of an error in the app we collect data and information (through third party products) on your phone called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your device Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing our Service, the time and date of your use of the Service, and other statistics.


Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. These are sent to your browser from the websites that you visit and are stored on your device's internal memory.

The fonebud W website and app store and process personal data that you have provided to us, in order to provide said service. It’s your responsibility to keep your phone and access to the service secure. We therefore recommend that you do not jailbreak or root your phone, which is the process of removing software restrictions and limitations imposed by the official operating system of your device. It could make your phone vulnerable to malware/viruses/malicious programs, compromise your phone’s security features and it could mean that the fonebud W service won’t work properly or at all.

You should be aware that there are certain things that fonebud IoT Berhad will not take responsibility for. Certain functions of the service will require the service to have an active internet connection. The connection can be Wi-Fi, or provided by your mobile network provider, but fonebud IoT Berhad cannot take responsibility for the service not working at full functionality if you don’t have access to Wi-Fi, and you don’t have any of your data allowance left.

If you’re using the service outside of an area with Wi-Fi, you should remember that your terms of the agreement with your mobile network provider will still apply. As a result, you may be charged by your mobile provider for the cost of data for the duration of the connection while accessing the service, or other third party charges. In using the service, you’re accepting responsibility for any such charges, including roaming data charges if you use the service outside of your home territory (i.e. region or country) without turning off data roaming. If you are not the bill payer for the device on which you’re using the service, please be aware that we assume that you have received permission from the bill payer for using the service.

Along the same lines, fonebud IoT Berhad cannot always take responsibility for the way you use the service i.e. You need to make sure that your device stays charged – if it runs out of battery and you can’t turn it on to avail the Service, fonebud IoT Berhad cannot accept responsibility.

With respect to fonebud IoT Berhad’s responsibility for your use of the service, when you’re using the service, it’s important to bear in mind that although we endeavor to ensure that it is updated and correct at all times, we do rely on third parties to provide information to us so that we can make it available to you. fonebud IoT Berhad accepts no liability for any loss, direct or indirect, you experience as a result of relying wholly on this functionality of the service.

At some point, we may wish to update the service. The service app is currently available on Android and iOS – the requirements for both systems (and for any additional systems we decide to extend the availability of the service to) may change, and you’ll need to download the updates if you want to keep using the service. fonebud IoT Berhad does not promise that it will always update the service so that it is relevant to you and/or works with the iOS/Android version that you have installed on your device. However, you promise to always accept updates when offered to you. We may also wish to stop providing the service, and may terminate use of it at any time without giving notice of termination to you. Unless we tell you otherwise, upon any termination, (a) the rights and licenses granted to you in these terms will end; (b) you must stop using the service, and (if needed) delete it from your device.
